A Vida Plena, is Portuguese for “The Full Life.” It is our hope that this friendly and encouraging phrase will put people at ease and encourage them to visit. A Vida Plena: The Christian Reading Room can be a home for believers, seekers, and observers. A Vida Plena is an inviting setting with comfortable furniture, pleasant music, Christian literature (in both English and Portuguese), and good coffee and tea. All of this is provided at no cost/obligation.

  • Christian lending library

    • Individuals wanting to take a book will register and “check out” the book, the same as your local library. Visitors will find Christian fiction, inspirational and devotional studies, biblical reference books, and biographies. There are books for children, as well.

  • Christian reading room

    • Christian publications and books are available for guests to read while enjoying a coffee or tea.

  • Coffee meet-up

    • Individuals may drop by and enjoy a FREE coffee or tea with a friend in a peaceful coffee shop setting, which is air-conditioned/heated - and even smells nice.

WHO WE ARE

Established in July 2021, A Vida Plena exists to shine the Light of God on Tavira. It is through God's blessings, the efforts of local Christians, and the support of individuals and churches from across the world, that A Vida Plena operates. We seek to provide a space where people can find and build a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

A Vida Plena is managed by Paul and Debbie Pinckley, a retired couple from the U.S.

Our goal is to share what it means to truly have a FULL LIFE, as referenced in Romans 10:10.

WAYS WE HELP

A Vida Plena is in the "business" of changing and shaping lives.

* We endeavor to provide a spiritual influence on our town, by offering a place to sit, read, and discuss matters of the Spirit and the Christian walk. Additionally, we seek ways to assist the community, whether it is helping the poor, assisting the victims of wildfires, offering free English-language instruction, and providing periodic "full life seminars."

* We offer conversational English sessions, weekly. We view a brief video on The Story of Redemption, then discuss our understanding of it and how we respond. Everyone has an opportunity to practice their English by sharing their thoughts. The sessions are conducted by a U.S. certified teacher who is a native English speaker.

* We host a men's Bible study on Tuesday mornings at 11h. A women's Bible study happens every Wednesday morning at 11h.

* We provide a Christian worship service, each Sunday at 17h (5 p.m.). At our worship, you can expect:

  • a warm welcome

  • singing

  • praying

  • celebrating Jesus' sacrifice by taking Communion/Lord's Supper

  • hearing a message from the word of God

  • discussing the message

We strive to be true to the first century church, as found in the New Testament. We meet weekly, on Sunday, the first day of the week. We spend time singing praises, going to God in prayer, and studying His word. Our song service is acapella.

We are a church of sinners in need of a Savior. We believe that Jesus Christ, the son of the true and living God, provided that salvation by dying on a cross and rising from the tomb three days later. He freely provides us with the opportunity to accept His offer of forgiveness and grace.

We follow the New Testament directives to be accepted into Christ's church:

HEAR THE GOSPEL - John 5:24-25, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears My (Christ) word and believes Him (God) who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.

HAVE FAITH IN GOD'S MESSAGE - Romans 10:17, Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

REPENT, OR TURN AWAY, FROM YOUR SINS - Luke 13:3, ...unless you repent, you too will all perish.

CONFESS YOUR FAITH IN CHRIST, AS YOUR SAVIOR - Romans 10:8-10, But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:  If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

BE BAPTIZED - Acts 2:36-39, “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

LIVE A FAITHFUL, CHRISTIAN LIFE - Revelation 2:10, Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

If you are local to the Eastern Algarve, we are happy to have volunteers join us to greet our visitors, prepare coffee and tea, etc. Sometimes, a simple invitation will encourage someone to stop in.

If you are not in the immediate area, let us know if you will be visiting. We plan special events and activities, from time to time. It might be that you could help us out.

Wherever you are, we solicit your prayers. Pray for the workers, and pray for the people of Tavira to have a desire to more closely know God.

Feel free to reach out for more information or to ask questions. PEP.AVidaPlena@gmail.com

FUNDRAISING

We are dependent on gifts to operate. We are thankful that both individuals and churches have partnered with us. Their generosity allows us to pay our rent, electricity, etc. 100% of donations go directly to the operation of A Vida Plena. No salaries or support is paid to workers.

Of course, making sure we have books and magazines, advertising, and expanding evangelistic efforts all takes additional funds.

We are always interested in adding books to our collection. There is an A Vida Plena wish list on Amazon.es (Amazon Spain). We are able to receive books easily, and typically quickly. Used books are happily accepted! If you have a Prime account, shipping may be free. You may send them to: Paul Pinckley, Rua de Alvares Botelho 29 R/C, Tavira, 8800-319, Portugal.

If you would like to support our work  financially, reach out to us and we can provide the details for making a contribution.
